Our Veterinary Hospital is one of the largest animal welfare hospitals in South Africa. We provide medical care for stray, abandoned and abused animals; sterilise all animals adopted from our kennels; and provide subsided services for the residents in our area who do not have the financial resources to take their animals to a private vet.
Our vets also offer useful advice on how to care for pets once they’ve been treated at the hospital and are ready to return home. Healthy pets make for happy families!
The JSPCA provides a subsidised veterinary service for people who can’t afford the services of a private vet, but proof of income is needed in order to benefit from this subsidy.
The Veterinary Hospital works on an almoning system, which means that it uses charitable donations to provide this subsidised veterinary care. Costs levied by the hospital are calculated on a sliding scale according to income.
As the JSPCA does not promote the breeding of animals, the hospital will only consent to treat an unsterilized animal if the owner agrees to have the animal sterilised. This policy is strictly applied, and our vets will only waive the need for sterilisation on medical grounds.
