Meet our gorgeous cover model
Pamper, who posed so graciously for the cover of this week’s newsletter, is about 7 weeks old, loves to climb, catch leaves and lizards. He would love to add beauty, love and grace to a special family. He currently resides at OCW and would welcome visitors and a furever home.
On a sad note, last week our Inspectors raided chicken hawking sites, where illegal slaughter was also taking place. The raid was done in conjunction with Veterinary Public Health, Environmental Affairs, JMPD and SAPS. We removed all the chickens, as they were housed in unacceptable and dirty facilities and some of them were deformed or ill. Criminal charges of animal cruelty will be laid.
As we were putting this week’s newsletter to bed, a box of newborn kittens was found on a dumpsite. Only two of them were still alive when they were brought in, but were sadly too weak to survive the night.
It is a sad reality of our society that animal lives do not seem to matter. We will never give up the fight to stop animal cruelty and are only able to continue with our work through your support.
On a lighter note, in this issue, we share an article on how children, and particularly those with special needs, benefit from growing up with pets, we celebrate our recent rehoming successes, and showcase some of our furbabies that are ready for adoption.
Wishing you a super week!
Celeste and the Johannesburg SPCA Team
