On behalf of everyone here at the JSPCA, we would like to welcome our new veterinarian – Dr. Marina Alves Ferreira. Dr. Ferreira joined the Johannesburg SPCA in February 2020. She qualified from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, the University of Pretoria in 2008.
I have always had an interest in animals and completed a BSc in Zoology and an MSc in Conservation Genetics before I studied Veterinary Science. From the start of my Veterinary career I have been in small animal practice, dealing mainly with dogs and cats, and the odd bird. In 2017 I joined the Roodepoort Krugersdorp SPCA as their Principal Veterinarian, where I developed my interest and passion for primary animal health and welfare.
I am a passionate veterinarian, with a keen interest in making a difference in the lives of my patients and their owners. I believe primary animal healthcare and education are crucial in the upliftment of the welfare of animals.Dr. Marina Alves Ferreira
Her free time is spent with her husband and two young boys, as well as her two dogs: a German Shepherd and an adopted Foxie cross. We’re pretty sure they are all enough to keep her on her toes at all times when she is at home!
“I hope to continue the good work of the Johannesburg SPCA”, Dr. Ferreira says, “and make a difference in many animals and people’s lives.”
The Johannesburg SPCA Hospital will continue providing only Primary Animal Healthcare, including vaccinations, sterilisations, and euthanasias.
Veterinary consultations are no longer provided.
